OTS (Onehunga Towing Services) is a family run vehicle and machinery transport specialist that’s been in business for more than 40 years. They have 26 vehicles and transport everything from cars to 20-tonne earth movers throughout the Auckland region. As their fleet grew, they wanted to streamline job dispatching, billing and communication with their drivers using a GPS system.
They looked at Navman Wireless and other companies and decided on Navman Wireless because of its full range of tracking, messaging and reporting capabilities. Every OTS vehicle has a Navman Wireless tracking and MDT messaging unit installed. “We wanted our dispatchers spending less time on the phone and RT’s trying to contact trucks,” explains Roland Howell, Managing Director. “With the OnlineAVL 2 application, we can send the closest truck to any job because we can see where all our trucks are all the time. And we can send the job details straight to the truck, including the job order number, vehicle make, pick-up/drop-off location and whether cash is to be collected.”
Now booking and managing jobs is much simpler, there’s no more guesswork and time spent on the phone is down by a third.
Better Customer Service and Daily Invoicing
In addition to one-off pick ups and deliveries, OTS does work for regular clients such as hire companies. With GPS tracking, they can be much more accurate about arrival time and easily show proof of delivery. Leison states, “As soon as a job is complete, the Navman Wireless system sends a message update to our Infinity Solutions job booking system, which initiates a confirmation email to the customer so they know exactly when each delivery took place.”
The Navman Wireless and Infinity Solutions combination also lets OTS invoice their clients on a daily basis. “Our customers don’t have to wait - they know exactly what they’re being charged for every day,” says Leison. “And if a customer has any questions regarding deliveries, we can look at the trip reports to get a clear understanding of events.”
Easy to Install and Use
The OTS team found the transition to Navman Wireless very simple. As Leison explains, “The tracking and MDT units are compact and were quickly and easily installed in our trucks. He concludes, “Navman Wireless doesn’t break down. It’s a very stable system that’s helped us streamline our business.”
