Rose’s Alterations

“Navman Wireless helps us make management decisions regarding pick up and delivery routes. We couldn’t make these calls so easily without the visibility this system offers.”

Benefits of Navman Wireless

  • Cost savings due to reduced vehicle use
  • Reduced fleet from 3 vehicles to 2
  • Better customer service

Rachel and Richard Beechey have been involved with Rose’s Alterations since 1992. With 35 staff, Rose’s is the largest single site alterations company in Australasia. Along with their retail shop, Rose’s also has more than 200 wholesale clients. They pick up clothing for alteration and repair from drycleaners, retail shops and clothing wholesalers around Auckland.

Rose’s has 2 vans on the road conducting approximately 700 jobs per week. Half the work is scheduled and half is called by clients as needed.

Before Navman Wireless, the Rose’s team used pagers to send messages but couldn’t confirm when or whether messages were received. Mr Beechey says they looked at mobile phones as an alternative but realised they still wouldn’t be able to confirm that their drivers got their messages.

Mr Beechey then looked at Navman Wireless. “When we decided to install a tracking and messaging system in 2005, we chose Navman Wireless because we knew the brand and our dealer was very helpful,” he says. Today, Rose’s can confirm dispatch and receipt of all messages, see the location of their vans at any time and offer their customers more accurate ETAs.

Cost Savings due to Reduced Vehicle Use

Navman Wireless has given Mr Beechey a degree of confidence about the whereabouts of his vans that he didn’t have before. He was honest with his van drivers when he installed Navman Wireless, told them how it would improve customer service and showed them how it worked.

“I do keep track of where the vans are. I can look at the OnlineAVL 2 in the office or from my computer at home to make sure the vans aren’t being used when they’re not supposed to be,” he says.

Mr Beechey also keeps track of driver behaviour with Navman Wireless’ various reports including the speed report and time reports. Now there’s no more weekend use and drivers are more conscientious
on the road.

Most impressively, Navman Wireless helped the company confirm they didn’t need a third van. “We did have 3 vans when we installed the system. Because we could see how the vans travelled, we were able to change their routes which enabled us to take one van off the road,” explains Mr Beechey.

Better Customer Service

The Navman Wireless system helps Rose’s Alterations ensure deliveries are done in the right order at the right time. “We put Geofences around all our key clients and key retail areas so we see how much time a driver spends in any one place. It gives us a very good time trail,” says Mr Beechey.

And there’s nothing like impressing a customer with a specific ETA. Mr Beechey comments, “The OnlineAVL 2 is so accurate, we can tell a customer that the van is travelling down Ponsonby Road at 45kms. They’re blown away by that kind of detail.”

Clients are also pleased with the security that the system offers. With valuable fashion on board the vans, clients have the peace of mind of knowing that the vehicle can be tracked at all times.

“Security, service, professionalism - Navman Wireless has given us all this and more. It’s part of our package now and I wouldn’t want to work without it,” concludes Mr Beechey.
