Navman Wireless Tracks 100,000 Vehicles Worldwide
OnlineAVL2 wins at 9th annual Telematics Detroit 2009 Conference & Exhibition
Auckland, date 2009 - Navman Wireless has achieved a significant global milestone, tracking 100,000 vehicles worldwide. The achievement confirms Navman Wireless's position as the only true global provider of fleet tracking and vehicle management solutions. The connections are spread across 7,000 customers worldwide in 10 countries. It now tracks 12,000 vehicles in New Zealand and 50,000 in the United Kingdom, with the remainder distributed across Asia, the Americas, Europe and Australia.
The number of vehicles Navman Wireless tracks has more than doubled since July 2007, when the company was formed by a management buyout backed by Prairie Capital. At that time the company tracked 48,000 vehicles worldwide. It now has 10 offices worldwide, and its workforce has grown 50 percent in the past 20 months.
Ian Daniel, the Auckland-based Vice President Asia Pacific and Latin America for Navman Wireless, says the company's growth reflects increasing demand from businesses for affordable solutions that reduce the cost of operating vehicles while improving productivity and enhancing customer service.
"Navman Wireless became the global leader in vehicle fleet tracking solutions through a combination of a great GPS technology platform and a distribution model that allows us to respond to local needs in each market," says Ian.
"We're also actively expanding into continental Europe, Asia and Latin America where our reputation for pioneering work in GPS technologies and strategy of partnering with the best local service providers means customers can optimise their fleet operations using reliable and proven best-of-breed technology."
Navman Wireless is now headquartered in Chicago but the majority of the R&D team of more than 40 developers is still based in New Zealand, with a small team working out of Silicon Valley.
Ian says that the company is not taking its market share for granted. Nor will it be satisfied with linear growth, even in the current economic climate.
"We estimate that the fleet vehicle tracking market is still at less than 10 percent penetration in New Zealand. There is plenty of opportunity for growth both here and across the globe. There are also opportunities for our existing customers to get additional value out of our solutions with offerings such as telematics for engine management and electronic management of regulatory obligations such as road user charges," he says.
OnlineAVL2 recognised in international awards
Earlier this month Navman Wireless's OnlineAVL2 real-time fleet tracking and management system received an award at the 2009 Telematics Update awards at the 9th annual Telematics Detroit 2009 Conference & Exhibition. OnlineAVL2 was placed second in the highly contested Best Telematics Service & Application for Commercial Vehicles.
Ian says that the award recognises Navman Wireless's next generation software leadership.
"These awards are the Oscars of the telematics industry. We're delighted that industry experts have endorsed our fleet management solutions. The award acknowledges our development of a cutting edge system that delivers that concrete return on investment and truly makes a difference in the bottom line of our customers," says Ian.
OnlineAVL2 is a GPS-based system that helps reduce fuel usage and optimise fleet operations by reducing operating costs, improving fleet productivity and enhancing customer service. It includes the market's most comprehensive real-time and historical vehicle/driver activity reporting as well as the first commercial-grade integrated dispatch/messaging/GPS navigation device for in-vehicle use.
